If you ask an average Dominican what their favorite dish is, don’t be surprised if you hear then reply with “La Bandera” as a response. “La Bandera”, or “The Dominican Culinary Flag,” consists of white rice, stewed beans and a meat dish (usually stewed or roasted). To make it even more special, some add a side salad or some tostones to complete the dish. This is a hearty and delicious dish that is cooked very often in the Dominican household.
Since we are very fond of this dish, I figured it would be a wonderful way to inaugurate this site. So without further adieu, I present you with “La Bandera Dominicana!”
The meat dish pictured above is oven roasted chicken (pollo horneado). But it is equally delicious with stewed chicken (pollo guisado).
